1st year check up

Nathan had his year check up on July 22, 2008. He weighed in at 19 lb. 12 oz. and was 28 1/2 in. long! He really didn't want to sit still on the scale as the nurse was trying to get his weight, but she gave him her round tape measure to distract him and that seemed to work. After checking his weight and height it was time for the not so fun part..............shots. He got 5 shots, 3 in one leg and 2 in the other leg. Poor little guy, it was so heartbreaking to see him cry and I had to hold his arms while she giving them to him. The only good part is that he only cried for a couple minutes and then he was ok. The nurse then gave him this cool gown to put on to get ready to see Dr. Harris. He looked so cute in the gown covered in cars that I just couldn't resist taking a picture of him. After his examination from Dr. Harris it was determined that Nathan is one happy, healthy little boy! His next appt. is in Oct. when he turns 15 months.

The last picture is of Nathan in a airplane swing that my neighbor had gotten for him. As you can see from the look on his face he wasn't really sure about it. Parker was in the background coming over to push him. Nathan stayed in there for a few minutes, but soon wanted out.

More birthday pictures

Here are some more pictures from Nathan's 1st birthday party. Nathan really enjoyed opening up his presents. He liked ripping the wrapping paper ( with some help from big brother) and throwing it all over! The first picture is of Nathan opening his present from Parker, which was a stuffed tigger. The next picture is of Nathan playing with these really cool blocks Leland and I got him from Toys R Us. You can stack them up and they have different things inside each block that move around. These blocks are easier for him to stack up versus legos. Of course he likes knocking the blocks down versus building them up, but what kiddo doesn't?
Nathan enjoyed playing with uncle Matt with his new blocks. Matt would build up the blocks and then Nathan would knock them down. In the picture above he was sharing his block with uncle Matt. It was so cute watching Nathan play with Matt:) Leland and I also got Nathan this cute toy train that came with 3 balls that when you push a button the balls go and get pushed through, constantly moving. It also has the option of having the balls come out the back of the train and Nathan would put them back in the top opening of the train and the train would throw them out again and then also the train can move too, so its a great toy to keep him busy and also for him to work on eye and hand coordination.
The last picture is the most recent family picture. We usually don't have anyone to take our family picture, so I thought this would be the most ideal time to do it while Matt and Glen were at the house. Needless to say Nathan was one busy boy for his birthday. On the day before his birthday when we had Matt and Glen over Nathan took two 2 1/2 hour naps, plus he went to bed at his normal time of 8-8:30pm. He was one tired boy!!!!!! That same night Leland and I had the chance to go out and see Hancock, which I've been wanting to see since its has come out and Matt stayed to keep an eye on the boys! If you have not see Hancock I would recommend it, its a great movie!!!!!

Happy 1st Birthday Nate!

Happy 1st Birthday to my little man! I can't believe it has been a year already, time certainly does fly! The first birthday party I had for Nate was on July 17th with his little buddies that are in his playgroup. The morning before that day Parker, Nate and I were playing outside and Parker and I decided to use his sidewalk chalk and write Happy 1st Birthday Nate! Nate enjoyed watching us draw and actually grabbed some of the chalk and tried to color some too. I captured a picture of Nate crawling around after we were done and I managed to get all the words in the picture.

The next picture is of Nate's cupcake cake. He has been interested in Elmo lately, so I thought I would get him a Elmo cake. He enjoyed digging into the cupcake as you can see from all the red and yellow frosting all over his face! He actually ate the entire cupcake, which I'm not too surprised about because he eats everything we put in front of him. He enjoyed opening all his presents and got some cool new bathroom toys. Shortly after that party he crashed and took a nap for 3 hours!

The next picture is of Nate at Toys R Us. He got a special card from Geoffrey the Giraffe saying to come and celebrate your 1st birthday, so we all went. Nate got his own crown to wear in the store and a balloon. He loved playing with the balloon, but he didn't like wearing his crown and kept taking it off.

The last picture if of Nate eating another cupcake at the small party we had for him on July 20th. We invited Leland's brothers over and had a small cookout and birthday party. Nate, as you can see, is enjoying his 2nd cupcake. We all sang happy birthday to him and Nate didn't really know how to react. He just sat there looking at each of us like, "ok you are singing to me, I like this!" We placed a number 1 in his cupcake and lit it, and we were surprised that he didn't attempt to touch the flame. After we sang to him Parker helped him blow out the candle. After we ate cupcakes Nathan crashed for 2 1/2 hours and then when he woke up we watched him open up his gifts. We thought he would have stayed up longer with taking that long nap, but he went to bed at his normal bed time which is 8pm and slept until 7am the next morning.

Say cheese!

Here is the most recent picture of me and my boys! Leland was getting the boys to smile and he was saying "bologna" and it must have been the way he was saying it because it made the boys laugh each time. He captured both of the boys smiling so well. You can see that Nate still has his 4 teeth, no new ones yet. The most exciting news to share with all of you is that Nathan is becoming more and more confident in taking steps. It's like he all of a sudden to figured out that he can balance on his feet and is taking between 5-10 steps with each try. It was like a light bulb that went off in his little brain that said, "yep, I'm ready to really give mom and dad a run for thier money" It's just so amazing to me to see how much he developed in just over the weekend. He gets so excited especially when he is walking back and forth between Leland and I. Tonight we were having him walk back and forth between the two of us and at one point he began walking towards Leland and then he looked back at me and decided to jet in the other direction. It was like he wanted Leland to chase after him, it was so cute!
Nathan is now drinking whole milk, and has been for the past couple weeks now. We decided to start him on whole milk before he turned one because we used the last of the formula and we decided that we are not going to spend all that $$ to get more formula and since he is so close to turning one, so what the hcek, lets just start him on whole milk. Nathan is doing great with the milk and he is drinking out of sippy cups............no more bottles! He sees big brother Parker drinking out of his cups and he wants what he has. Nathan can also drink out of a straw which is really impressive!
His favorite thing to say lately is "uh oh". He likes to drop things from his highchair and look over the edge and say "uh-oh" and then he wants you to pick up the thing he dropped just so he can drop it again and see if you will pick it up. He especially likes it when Parker picks the object up for him because he knows that he will continue to pick it up. He is one smart boy!
Nathan will be 1 in only one more week........................

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July everyone! I took the boys to a children's parade and carnival in Lake Dallas. It was a small parade, but Parker sure got TONS of candy. It was like it was Halloween all over again! This was Nathan's first parade and enjoyed it. He just sat in his stroller looking at all the floats and people around him. We had a couple with 2 sheep dogs that he was facinated with and they were barking at all the people around, but it didn't seem to bother him one bit.

The 2nd picture is of Parker standing by t he end of the street waiting for the parade to start. He loved chasing after all the candy that was being thrown to him, and it was difficult trying to keep him from running into the street to get those pieces that didn't quite make it to him. I should have brought a bag for the candy, but who would have thought he would have gotten so much! Needless to say the bottom of the stroller was full of candy! YUMMY!

The 3rd picture is Nathan with a big smile on his face. I told him to look at the mini ponies that were walking by and he thought they were pretty neat! When the firetrucks went by Nathan wasn't really sure what to think. His blue eyes were so BIG, especially when they sounded the sirens. That is why he has the look on his face of.........what is this big red thing?
After the parade we went to check out the bouncy houses and activities going on. Parker had a blast running through the bouncy houses and doing some arts and crafts. He also got his face painted with a red star on his cheek. We didn't stay very long because it was SO hot out. You gotta love the Texas heat! We came home and Nathan crashed out and Parker and I spent time going through all of his candy!

Fun Day at the water park

I took the boys to the waterpark in Lewisville today which was part of Parker's playgroup. Parker's playgroup meets on Tuesdays and each mom that has a child in the playgroup takes turns on hosting playgroup, and this week it was the waterpark. Needless to say Parker was extremely excited!!!! Nathan was a little uncertain about all the excitement going on around him. He liked putting his hands in the water at first, but when he got splashed by Parker and other children all he wanted was for mommy to hold him. The picture of the boys together was a bit of a challenge because Nathan didnt really want to sit still and Parker just wanted to run and play, so as you can see Nathan's face doesn't look very happy. The last picture was Parker running through this big tube where water was constantly coming out and he loved running through it and getting his head wet! We stayed there for a couple hours and then we met up with daddy for lunch. And you would have thought that all that fun, excitement and exercise would have made the boys tired and they would take naps........................well they both fell asleep in the car after lunch, but as soon as we got home, Parker wanted nothing to do with a nap, and much to my surprise Nathan stayed up too!

Well, now its 9:25pm and the boys both crashed early!!! yippie, now I can have some quiet time!
